Doug sounds really great in his letter this week. It is winter down in Santiago and he has been wearing his winter coat. His trainer is Kyle Peterson from Salt Lake City. He will be with him for 12 weeks. Here is a quote from his letter:

The food is lots of bread and noodles and potatoes and rice and peas and tomatoes and corn. pretty much my favorite kind of food. Also, the plates are the perfect size and almost like bowls. pretty sweet. this mission also is different from the others in that i get up at 730 and go to bed at 1130. Everything is moved forward an hour because that is more with the peoples schedule down here. I like it a lot. it is my kind of schedule. Its pretty cold here. I have worn my heavy coat everyday. intense

You can write Doug for free at dearelder.com and select the Santiago North Mission. I think they just print it off and put it in the pouch. This is his address for packages:

Doug is on his way to Santiago, Chile

Doug has been on his mission exactly two months today. He has been sick with gastro-intestinal issues for most of that time in the MTC. It was fun to talk to him on his way to Chile when they had a layover at the LA Airport today. He sounded great. He is looking forward to getting to Santiago and beginning his "real mission". When I came home from work--there were two letters waiting and another his photo card. It was so exciting! Here are a bunch of pictures from the MTC. Enjoy!!

Bargains and Rain

As we all know, dad can find a bargain. He bought a ceiling fan for our bedroom for under $5 and he bought a tent for $9. Can you believe it? We also had some torrential rain storms. Notice the water running down our street creating a wake on the jeep tire. Pretty intense . . .

Elder Walton -- News and Pictures from the MTC

Doug is doing well at the MTC. Here are some pictures that he sent home to be downloaded and saved that he took.

Fireworks in Downtown Denver

They were offering a free Colorado Symphony Concert and fireworks so we decided to take advantage of this opportunity. It reminded me of our days in DC on the "Mall". Boy was it every crowded and we had a bit of an obstructed view of the concert and the fireworks. Next year we will have to go down earlier and stake out a better spot. It was still fun and I hope we do it again.

Brian & Kristi are Engaged! -- Fourth of July Weekend!

Happy 4th of July! We were lucky enough to have Brian and Kristi come for the holiday. It was so much fun going to Rocky Mountain National Park, hike to Emerald Lake, eat lunch and be there for the happy moment when Brian proposed to Kristi by a beautiful mountain lake.
